Collection: unSTABLE - Juria Le Roux

Juria le Roux was born in Zimbabwe in 1963, where she spent her childhood on a cattle and maize farm near Rusape. She has lived in South Africa since 1976.

She obtained a B.A. Creative Arts Degree in Jewellery Design and Manufacture at the University of Stellenbosch in 1986. She founded Amulet, a co-operative workshop with three members, in Cape Town, in 1987.

Juria has held and taken part in solo and group jewellery and painting exhibitions since 1986.

From 1995 she spent 8 years abroad in Belgium and the USA. On her return to South Africa she resumed making special commission jewellery pieces for private clients, whilst also investigating her love for painting under the tutorship of Pieter Vermaak.

Recently she has made paintings utilising the symbolism of fire and water, investigating and commenting on the loss of heritage, land ownership, environmental issues and the transience of life.
